Brick Veneer foundation transforms a plain parged wall
This project in Middletown, NJ involved dressing up a section of foundation that had been left with a plain, gray parged finish beneath the vinyl siding. The client wanted the base of the home to match the character of the existing brick corner just a few feet away, so the goal was to wrap the foundation in a brick veneer with a clean stone cap — giving the whole corner of the house one consistent, finished look instead of two mismatched materials sitting side by side.
The Challenge
The existing parged foundation was sound structurally, but visually it stood out against the home’s brick accents rather than complementing them. Matching a new brick veneer to an existing, weathered brick corner is trickier than it sounds — the color, texture, and mortar joints all have to read as part of the same family of materials, not a newer addition tacked on next to it. The work in Middletown, NJ also had to be built up cleanly against the vinyl siding line and tie neatly into the paver walkway running along the base of the house.

My Approach
I selected a brick blend and mortar tone that would sit comfortably alongside the home’s original brick, then built the veneer up course by course with a stone cap along the top edge to give a clean, finished transition into the siding above. Faith and the rest of the team worked closely with me throughout to keep the lines sharp and the corners square, making sure the new brickwork would read as a natural extension of the house rather than a separate project.
THE TRANSFORMATION
The before-and-after images say it all. The plain gray parging that once wrapped the foundation is now a warm, textured brick veneer topped with a smooth stone cap, and the corner of the house finally reads as one cohesive design rather than two competing finishes. The new brickwork in Middletown, NJ sits flush and level with the paver walkway below and ties in seamlessly with the home’s original brick just a few feet away.
