Concrete Overlay Revives Cracked Front Porch
For this project, I was contacted to restore a front porch in Manasquan, New Jersey. that had suffered from surface cracking and wear over time. The homeowner wanted a solution that would eliminate the visible cracks and give their home's entryway a fresh, smooth look without the need for full demolition or replacement. The goal was to resurface the concrete landing while preserving the existing brick steps below.
The Challenge
The existing concrete surface at the top of the porch had developed unsightly cracks and discoloration, undermining the overall curb appeal of an otherwise well-maintained entry. The brick steps were still in good structural condition but were beginning to show age in the mortar joints. The challenge here was to address the failing concrete slab without damaging the steps or compromising the elevation leading to the door.
“No more cracks on my porch! Would recommend Brett and Faith for our future projects soon.”
My Approach
Rather than tear out the entire porch slab, I proposed a concrete overlay—a cost-effective and efficient method to restore the surface while maintaining the original structure. After thoroughly cleaning and preparing the area, we applied a high-performance overlay product that would bond securely to the existing concrete, smoothing out the surface and concealing any previous cracking.
Throughout the process in Manasquan, New Jersey, I worked carefully to protect the surrounding brickwork and ensure a clean finish against the door threshold and trim. The final step was a precise smoothing and curing process to achieve a seamless, durable surface that will hold up to weather and foot traffic.
THE TRANSFORMATION
The before image shows a weathered, uneven concrete pad that had seen better days. In the after photo, the difference is immediate: the new surface is smooth, clean, and gives the whole front entrance a more polished, cared-for appearance. The combination of restored concrete and original brick steps now creates a cohesive and welcoming front step in Manasquan, New Jersey.

CONCLUSION
This porch overlay project is a great example of how masonry solutions don’t always require demolition to deliver lasting results. With the right techniques and materials, even small fixes can have a big impact. I'm proud of the result—and more importantly, so is the homeowner.
